Life

Spanish composer Jua Navarro was a student of Cristóbal de Morales. He was maestro de capilla in Málaga (1551), Ávila (1565), Salamanca (1567–1570), Ciudad Rodrigo (1570–1578) and Palencia (1578–1580). He is seen as one of the most important polyfonists of the Andalusian school of the Renacimiento. He composed psalms, hymns and madrigals.

Tim Thomas <tthomas(at)indiansprings.org> writes:
A great deal of information about the music of Juan Navarro is found in the dissertation by Timothy H. Thomas on The Music of Juan Navarro Based on Pre-existant Musical Materials, completed in 1990 at the University of Texas at Austin under Professor Robert Snow and on file at Univeristy Microfilms in Michigan.
