Music

A composer of modern contemporary compositions. Christopher Milmerstadt’s music ranges from symphonic to chamber compositions, music for voice and instruments, string trio, quartet, chamber orchestra as well as a variety of solo instuments... the music is written broadly in what could be considered a dissonant yet lyrical style, "non-traditional" or "atonal" yet not "experimental".

Much of his music is based upon art from other disciplines. Poems, usually old French symbolist poetry, as well expressionist paintings have been employed as a basis on which his compositions are written.

Influenced much by the music of the early 20th Century, his compositions address the divide between 1950’s experimentalism and the neo romanticism of he 1980’s.

Life

A composer in his late 20’s, Mr. Milmerstadt has had premiers in New York, Ghent, Belgium, & London. He has studied composition under Yvar Mikhashoff, Rodney Sharman, Carlo Pinto and William Kothe.

He and his wife live in Westchester NY, USA.
