Reactions

academic hairsplitting not valid outside of academia

In current general parlance, "classical" distinguishes all non - "popular" / "non-pop" music from all other musics, pop. jazz, rap, lounge music, musical theater, etc. Those outside of musico - academic cicles use "classical" with that meaning in mind. Welcome to shifts in accepted general usage. The majority of people do not care for, or need, fine-haired academic distinctions. To me, impact will never be a verb; "Romantic," will always be associated with longing, "Weltshmertz," Angst, unrequited love, and death.

Stylistic period?

Darius Milhaud was a 20th century composer not "classical"
