Life
Yan Mikirtumov was born in Moscow (Russia) in 1974. He starts to study music at 5 years old in “Moskauer Knabenchorschule ‘Sweschnikov’” in Moscow. In 1997 he finished his Master degree as a Choir conductor, singer and teacher in Academy of Choral Art (Moscow) where he studied with V. Popov (conducting) and Mikhail Arkadiev (piano). In 1997/1998 he studied composition in Moscow Conservatory with R. Ledenev, G. Dimitriev, V. Agafonnikov.
In 1989 he starts his performing activity as a singer, choir conductor and pianist. He participated in concert tours and recordings in Europe and North America. He worked with baroque music ensembles and dramatic theaters in Russia.
Since 1999 he works and lives in Portugal when started his activity as a teacher, accompanist and composer, founded his own children choir in Albufeira and quartet “Contradição” who started to play his music. In 2001 he collaborated as a conductor with the Lisbon Opera Theater in “Boris Godunov” of M. Mussorgsky. In 2002 his choir represented Portugal in France on the first Festival of youth Choirs. Nowadays he is professor of Evora University and National Academy of Orchestra in Lisbon.
