Biography
Studied under Glière. Close friend and fellow-student
of Prokofiev, teacher of many Soviet composers
including Kabalevsky, denounced by Zhdanov and Khrennikov at the 1948 Congress
of the Soviet Composers’ Union for the sin of ‘formalism’ along with
Shostakovich and Prokofiev. Posthumous Stalin Prize for his Symphony No.27.
