Life
Edward McGuire, born in Glasgow, UK, in 1948 studied with James Iliff at RAM, London 1966-70 and with Ingvar Lidholm in Stockholm in 1971.
His large scale works include the 3 act ballet Peter Pan (1989) for Scottish Ballet and Hong Kong Ballet; a 3 act opera The Loving of Etain (for Paragon Opera 1990) and A Glasgow Symphony. His CD on Delphian Records, “Eddie McGuire — Music for Flute, Guitar and Piano”, achieved Editor’s Choice in the 2006 Awards Issue of Gramophone Magazine. He won a British Composers Award in 2003 and a Creative Scotland Award 2004.
He has been featured composer at several festivals including Bath International Guitar Festival 1996, International Viola Congress 1998 and Edinburgh International Harp Festival. His Encores En Suite was performed live in 2010 on BBC Radio 3 to celebrate 75 years of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
