- Classical Brit Awards won by Sir Paul
(7 May 2007)This year the album of the year prize at the Classical Brit Awards was won by Sir Paul McCartney with a record inspired by his late first wife Linda.
The 64-year-old ex-Beatle described the album Ecce Cor Meum as "a labour of love" that took him more than 10 years to create.
Linda McCartney died of breast cancer in 1998, but he already began composing the album before that time. The composition was only premiered last year, in the Royal Albert Hall in London, England.
Next month, McCartney will also release a new pop album, called Memory Almost Full.

Music
Paul McCartney can be now considered as a classical composer after having won the best album of the year award at the Classical Brits Awards 2007 for his Ecce Cor Meum, written in commemoration of his late wife Linda McCartney-Eastman.
His other classical pieces included A Liverpool Oratorio and Standing Stones.
Biography
Many people might be surprised to find Paul McCartney in a list of classical composers. After becoming world famous as a member of The Beatles, for which — together with John Lennon — he was the main song writer, and later with his band “Paul McCartney and Wings”, as well as with many other projects, he also started writing classical pieces.
It is known that in his Beatles days he also has had a broad musical interest, listening to classical music, ancient as well as modern. This musis also influenced the recordings The Beatles made. The famous trumpet tune was inspired by the piccolo trumpet that Bach used in Brandenburg concertos. Many more classical music instruments can be heard in (the later) Beatles recordings. “All You Need is Love” feature a complete symphony orchestra.
