Life
Peter McAleer is now establishing himself as one of the emerging names on the British music scene, with performances at the City of London Festival, the Goldberg Contemporary Music Festival and the London Sinfonietta’s Inventions Day on the Southbank. The latter event saw the world premiere of his choral setting Doorkeeper, given by the BBC Singers at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. It was extremely well received, described in the Guardian as ‘the most distinguished’ of the settings presented, whilst the Times praised its ‘exultant blaze’.
Musical education
Peter studied at Highbury House Music School (with John Railton, Malcolm Hicks and others), the Royal College of Music with Bernard Stevens, and Goldsmiths’ College, where he took his MA in Composition with Peter Dickinson and Edward Gregson. Peter also went to Nottingham University for a year specifically to study composition with Nicholas Sackman. He now lives in Kent and works there as a composer, choral director and freelance teacher.
