Life

Matthias Maute (1963) studied the recorder in Freiburg and at the Utrecht Conservatory, where his teachers included Baldrick Deerenberg and Marion Verbruggen. In 1990 he was awarded first prize at the Musica Antiqua competition in Brugge (Belgium). He is active as a composer of music for recorder and other instruments, and several works have been published (Ascolta, Mieroprint and Moeck). He is a member of the Ensemble Caprice Stuttgart, with which he has made a CD featuring music by Haydn, Handel and Hume as well several of his own compositions (1990). He also regularly performs concertante recorder music with Ensemble Rebel.

There is at least one CD of Matthias Maute in the ANTES Edition of Bella Musica (BM-CD 31.9063). Its title is "Von Paris nach Wien", which means "From Paris to Vienna". The CD contains many arrangements for recorder and gamba, starting with Haydn (Vienna) and ending with Eric Satie (Paris).

(contribution by Holger Hüttemann <holger(at)mechanik.th-darmstadt.de>)

The CD ‘Les Barricades’ contains music performed by Matthias Maute (recorder), Markus Friemel (recorder) and Michael Spengler (viola da gamba). The recordermusic was made by Hume, Handel, Haydn and (that’s the most important part) Maute himself ("La petite étude, Lamento, Doornroosje, Les Barricades, Once there was a child, How I love you sweet Follia, Dynamics, Some more words).

The recording was made in Ludwigsburg, Kirche der Karlshoehe, in the spring of 1990. Number of the CD is SACD 9008-3 (Bauer Studios Ludwigsburg, Sacral LC7277).

On the inside of the booklet Maute states this:
"Les Barricades" und "Once there was a child" sind erschienen im Ascolta-Verlag (Ascolta Music Publishing 29, NL - 3992 Houten, Kriekengaarde 40).
