The Augusto-Massari-Prize was donated 1972 by Severino Massari to the memory of his father, the Italian composer and philatelist Augusto Massari.
Until 1979, the prize was awarded to the best exhibit about "music" at the national thematic exhibition in Italy.
Since 1980 the Augusto-Massari-Prize is awarded at international level. In the meanwhile, the prize is regarded as the "Oscar" of music philately. The exhibitions, at which predominantly exhibits about "music" topics are shown, regularly are a meeting point for music philatelists from all over the world.
