Biography
He studied natural sciences. He met Carl Orff and later studied with him. Prof. of the Munich Academy in 1924 and conductor of the Bach Society there in 1929. Taught at the Graz conservatory 1939-1945, becoming professor in 1944. In 1946 professor at the Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart. Much occupied with school music.

The father considers joining the Nazi party purely to improve his finances. But after he helps print resistance leaflets, his son, a Hitler Youth member, betrays him. After the war father and son meet again. Another Wolfgang Staudte (The Murderers Are Among Us) classic, Rotation was censored by the Soviets because of its pacifist message and footage from Leni Riefenstahl's Olympia.
