Life

[in German]

Genannt Padre Martini, Komponist, Musiktheoretiker, Musiklehrer. Musikalische Ausbildung durch seinen Vater, durch Luc’Antonio Predieri (harpsichord, singing, organ) und durch Antonio Riccieri (Kontrapunkt). 1722 Priesterweihe. 1725 Kapellmeister von San Francesco in Bologna. Dort eröffnete er ein musikalisches Studienzentrum. Unter seinen Schülern waren Sarti, J.C. Bach, Mozart, Gluck, Jommelli und Grétry.

Martini war ein leidenschaftlicher Sammler von Musikliteratur. Charles Burney (Musikhistoriker des 18. Jahrhunderts) schätzte Martinis Bibliothek auf 17000 Bände.
