Biography

He was a pupil of Lully and of the viol player Saint-Colombe. He becomes a musician at the Versailles court in 1676. In 1679 he is appointed "ordinaire de la chambre du roy pour la viole", a function he keeps until 1725. He was very highly regarded as a viol virtuoso and the numerous pieces he wrote for his instument were very much appriciated by the king and his court.
