Life

Flutist and composer Antoine Mahaut lived in Amsterdam from 1737 till 1777. He moved to Paris because of the debts he had. He also worked in Dresden. He spent his last years in a French monastery.

Mahaut also published a flute method in 1759, called “Nouvelle méthode pour apprendre en peu de temps а jouer la flute traversière”, as well as other writings.

In Amsterdam he published trios with flute, duets and sonatinas for flute. Stylistically his symphonies are related to those of Carl Philipp Stamitz and François-Joseph Gossec.
