Life
Charles Lenepveu was a pupil Ambroise Thomas at the Conservatory of Paris. He obtained the Prix de Rome in 1865. Then, at the concours of 1868, the Prix for his opéra-comique Le Florentin.
Though he never had a popular success, his music was also performed outside France. For example, at the Covent Garden in London he performed a grand opéra titled Velléda.
As professor of harmony at the Paris Conservatory in 1880, he received the Légion d’honneur in 1887 and was appointed professor of composition in 1894. In 1896 he was also elected member of the Académie des beaux-arts.
There is a street in Rouen that has his name.
