Music



Nicola Lefanu wrote/writes music for the orchestra, operas, chamber music, vocal works. A number of works are available on CD.

Life

Nicola LeFanu is a daughter of the composer Elizabeth Maconchy. She is married to the composer David Lumsdaine.

She studied in Oxford. During a year she worked at the Royal College of Music. She won a prize there for her Oboe Quartet.

Other awards: Gulbenkian Dance Award, Mendelssohn Scholarship, Harkness Award.

She was granted a Hon.DMus. at Aberdeen University (2006). Since 1994 she is Professor of Music at York University. In 1995 and 2004 there were two more Hon.‘s from Durham and Open University.
