Vanessa Lann writes in a contemporary idiom in which she uses the repetition of recognizable elements to create a ritualistic atmosphere. She questions the boundaries of what is audible, what is playable and what remains interesting after periods of time and in different contexts. Many of her works involve theatrical, or multi-media elements, often with a meditative, trance-like feel. She explores microtonality, eastern influences and audience perception of structure and silence.
