Music

Jean Langlais wrote and published over 300 compositions for sacred music and organ. Since there are so many: I’ll share those which are most prominent for organists and classical music lovers:

Organ: Three Gregorian Paraphrases, Folkloric Suite, Five Meditations on the Apocalypse, Hommage a Jean Philippe Rameau, Hommage to Frescolbaldi, Organ Book, Nine Pieces, Suite Baroque, Suite Française and Suite Medieval and Cinq Soleils.

Sacred Music: Missa Salve Regina, Messe Solennelle, Missa "In Simplicitate".

The American Suite, Incantation Pour Un Jour Saint, Three Voluntaries, Twenty-Four Pieces, Offrande A Marie, Eight Modal Pieces, and Trois Poemes Evangeliques.

Biography

Langlais was one of the most prolific and sacred music/organ composers in the 20th Century. He was a student of Paul Dukas and Marcel Dupré at the Paris Conservatory. He attended the National School for the Young Blind and studied organ with Andre Marchal.

His published organ compositions number more than 300 pieces, many of which are based on Gregorian Chant Themes.

Jean Langlais was organist at the Basilica of Saint Clothilde from 1945-1988; he was a direct inheritor and interpreter of César Franck and Charles Tournemire.
