Reactions Lang news Pulitzer Prize for David Lang (8 April 2008) The Pulitzer Prize for music was won by New York composer David Lang, with his piece “The Little Match Girl Passion”, based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale.
The piece, scored for four voices and some percussion instruments played by the singers, was commissioned by Carnegie Hall especially for the vocal ensemble Theatre of Voices and its director, Paul Hillier.
David Lang is known for his work with “Bang on a Can”, an experimental collective. He says that he has worked at providing a space that can make innovation meaningful.
