Life
It is said that...
- Kuhlau was a friend of L. van Beethoven.
- He lost an eye in an accident.
- He was forced to leave his homeland after Napoleon’s victory.
- He went to Copenhagen, Denmark, and settled there.
- His house, containing many unpublished manuscripts, burned to the ground. He became ill, probably from smoke inhalation at the fire, and died a year later as a result.
Kuhlau is one of the best composers for the flute in the classical/romantic era.
