Biography

It is said that...

• Kuhlau was a friend of L. van Beethoven.
• He lost an eye in an accident.
• He was forced to leave his homeland after Napoleon’s victory.
• He went to Copenhagen, Denmark, and settled there.
• His house, containing many unpublished manuscripts, burned to the ground. He became ill, probably from smoke inhalation at the fire, and died a year later as a result.

Kuhlau is one of the best composers for the flute in the classical/romantic era.
