Biography

The composer was born in the 18th of September, 1981. When he was only four, the violinist Angels Casas introduced him inside the world of the music. From that very moment Roger Julià Satorra realized that the music was his way and followed his studies conducted by high prestige musicians, giving the best of himself in his studies. In 2003 he gets the Bachelor Degree in Composition, at "Conservatori del Liceu de Barcelona" with excellent qualifications, and the Bachelor Degree in Music Theory in the same center. In the last years he has studied counterpoint, composition and orchestration with Lluís Vergés in Barcelona, with whom he has also studied modern harmony and Big Band arrangement. He has also studied piano with Josep Lluís Perez, with whom has majored in Piano. The composer own a great versatility because his formal musical education has been complemented with jazz and modern music studies, with prestigious teachers such as pianist José Reinoso or Sam Yahel.

Apart from the above mentioned teachers, Alfredo Gómez Alonso has also intervened directly with the composition and instrumentation education. Manel Camp, Ramon Escalé and Martí Ventura with the piano jazz field, and Ramon Coll and Alberto Nieto, with the classical piano. He has received combo classes from Miquel Angel Cordero at "Taller de Musics" of Barcelona, and from Ramon Escalé in Latin music. This education has given to the composer familiarity and experience with the different aspects of music creation, both on the technique and the coherence of classical music as well as the language, the improvisation and the spontaneity of jazz. From the friendship and the workshops with the musicologist PhD Joan Bofill i Soliguer, the composer has gotten a knowledge in musicology.

With the violin and viola he has collaborated with Granollers Chamber Orchestra and the Orchestras from the Terrassa and Manresa Conservatories. In 1999 he passed the access competition to Catalonia Young Symphonic Orchestra. Roger Julià Satorra has also performed with J.A.C. Trio, Hjas Projecte, Ensemble 4, Band Gog, The Billy Goats Group... playing the piano, bands for whom he has created arrangements and compositions. He has been Berga’s Espill Band director and director in residence of the Musical Union of Manresa Choir.

In the professional field, Roger Julià Satorra has started his career with a lot of strength, being commissioned arrangements and compositions for a large variety of clients, from commercials to film scores, and he has also composed concert music. World size important company Telefonica has commissioned him the music for a video with 1,000,000 copies. Dancing band "Tropik Show" has used compositions of him. He has composed the music for the pilot cartoons series "Brichus" and for the play "Sueños Secretos" from company "Quien Dijo Miedo" (dir: Jango Edwards i Tony Murchland). Recently, he has finished the soundtrack for the short "Sleep Over", by the director Andy Krakower.
