  • Op. 9 Hebrew Melodies for viola and piano
  • Op. 11 Violin Concerto in the Hungarian Manner (1861)
  • Op. 13 Overture "In Memoriam Heinrich von Kleist" (1861)

Also composed several cadenzas for major violin concertos.


Famous 19th century violin virtuoso, and great friend of Brahms. All his compositions were composed between 1853 and 1861.

24 April 1866: Premiere of Bruch's violin concerto no. 1 in g minor op. 26, in Koblenz, Germany, with Joachim playing violin and Bruch conducting.
1 January 1879: Premiere of Brahms's violin concerto in D major op. 77, in Leipzig, Germany, with Joseph Joachim playing violin and Brahms conducting.
18 October 1887: Premiere of Brahms' Doppelkonzert for violin and cello in a minor op. 102, in Cologne, Germany, with Joachim playin the violin and Brahms conducting.
