Biography

Composer, violinist, poet, and writer, the first event in the life of Adam Jarzębski to be recorded was his appointment in 1612 as violinist to the Berlin court of the Elector of Brandenburg.

Some three years later he was given leave of absence to visit Italy in order to learn more about composition but it would appear that he never returned from there to Berlin. Instead he went to Warsaw where he became a member of the orchestra associated with the royal chapel, a post in which he was to remain for the rest of his life.

He must have died at the end of 1648 or early in 1649 for the last document related to him is his will which was signed by him on 26 December 1648. The date of his birth is not known but it is likely that he was born, near Warsaw, in about 1590.
