- Film composer Jarre dies in L.A.
[posted 30 March 2009]The famous French film music composer Maurice Jarre has died of cancer on 29 March.
After an initial study of engineering, Maurice Jarre studied at the Paris Conservatory. In 1952 he was asked by Georges Franju to write the score for the film Hôtel des invalides, after which he almost exclusively wrote for film.
Maurice Jarre moved to Los Angeles after the big success of his score for Lawrence of Arabia (1962). There he has lived for the rest of his life. He will be cremated in Los Angeles on 31 March.

- Berlin Film Festival to honor Maurice Jarre
[posted 15 January 2009]The French film composer Maurice Jarre will receive a Golden Bear at a ceremony in Berlin on February 12.
The Oscar-winning composer will receive the Golden Bear as a lifetime achievement award at the Berlin International Film Festival. The festival will run from February 5 till 15. The Berlinale will also screen a series of films featuring Jarre's compositions.
Jarre won Oscars with his arrangements for the famous films "Lawrence of Arabia," "Doctor Zhivago" and "A Passage to India."
