Life

Studied with his father, then with Stanislau Niewiadomski (1907-10) and Sergei Taneyev in Moscow (1912-13), where he graduated from the Conservatory. In 1913 he came to the U.S. as a conductor of a chamber ensemle in New York. He won the first Coolidge Prize in 1918, the Society for the Publication of American Music Award and many Polish prizes. He lived in New York for many years appearing as guest conductor. Between 1932-37 he was director of opera and symphony concerts in Stanislawow, Poland.

(Source of the above is a book published in 1940, and it gives no further information.)

Between 1937 to 1946, Jarecki and his wife divided their time between London and Paris. With the help of his wife Louise, he formed an organization in London for Polish composers and performers, and arranged for concerts of their music. Jarecki passed away on May 2, 1955. His output consisted of chamber, vocal, and symphonic work. Louise Jarecki was a composer as well. The Indiana University at Bloomington houses the Jarecki Archive.

(Lesley Leduc <lleducyaddo.org> writes: Among the first guests in 1926 at Yaddo, an artists’ community in Saratoga Springs, New York. His wife’s name was Luise and she was a singer; they were living on 51rst Street in New York City in the 1920s.)
