Life

Nino Janjgava (born July 29, 1964, Tbilisi) is Georgian composer of mostly stage, orchestral, chamber, choral, vocal, and film works that have been performed in Asia, Europe and North America.

Ms. Janjgava studied composition with Alexei Machavariani, orchestration with Sulkhan Tsintsadze and polyphony with Archil Chimakadze at the Conservatory of Music in Tbilisi, where she graduated in 1988. She then had post-graduated studies in composition with Sulkhan Tsintsadze there from 1988–90.

Among her honors is Third Prize in the young composers competition in Moscow (1986, for Three Poems by Jarji Pkhoveli). Her music has been performed in Armenia, Azerbaijan, France, Georgia, Germany, Russia, and the USA.

She is also active in other positions. She founded the choral-instrumental ensemble Theatre of Voices in Tbilisi in 2006 and has since served as its director.
