Life

Houghton is one of Australia’s formost classical guitar composers. His work has been extensively recorded by John Williams, Carlos Bonell, Karen Schauppe, Zoo Duo and many other prominant classical guitarist around the world. John Williams has honoured Houghton by naming one of his albumns after one of his works. Carlos Bonells new album ‘Kinkachoo’ also is named after one of Houghton pieces.

His most acknowledged work is ‘Stelle’, a master piece of audial imagry inspired by the ancient statue of Artimus, a perfume. Both John Williams and Karen Schappe have recorded Stelle.

His solos and mixed instument works are distributed world wide by Moonstone Music (Melbourne, Australia)

His music has been misaken discribed as ‘minimalist’. Being a guitarist himself, his understanding of the beautiful tones of the guitar are explored deeply in his works. His pieces are unsurpasted by any modern living guitar composter.

A selection of his work is to be found on the AMAB syllabus.

Phillip currently resides in Brisbane Australia.
