The prominent and intense German woman-composer Barbara Heller is a laureate of the “Voya Toncitch Prize” International Piano Composition Contest in 1987, in Paris. Her work entitled “Intervalles” was premiered by Mr. Toncitch in Malta, at the Manoel Theatre at Valletta on November 23rd, 1987. According to Mr. Toncitch “Barbara Heller’s work Intervalles is a mischievous bravura piece exploring effects and impacts of intervals interplay with an extraordinary technical skill and evident emotional background.” The music critic of the weekly magazine “The Saturday Chronicle”, who signs Artisticus, wrote: “Barbara Heller’s Intervalles is a work that exploits different resources of non-harmonic and non-melodic music with staggering effects.” Mrs. Rosa Micallef-Judge stated in “The Sunday Times” that Intervalles by Barbara Heller spoke for itself, with countless combinations clearly brought out. Mr. Toncitch recorded Ms. Heller’s work in the Netherlands, for the Broadcasting Corporation NCRV at Hilversum. This work by Ms. Heller is published by Schott Music International in Mainz. Voya Toncitch also performed Ms. Heller’s work Requiem für Loki Gaspasek (1981) in Singapore. “In her short masterpiece Ms. Heller expressed her emotional depth with a rare intensity.”
