Biography
German-Bohemian born American composer (article in New Grove and Amerigrove). His opus 1, The Dawning of Music in Kentucky (1820) is “the most extraordinary opus 1 in the history of music” and his opus 3, The Sylviad: or, Minstrelsy of Nature in the Wilds of North America (Boston, 1823, 1825–26) is likewise the most extraordinary opus 3 in the history of music. Sylviad has recently been reprinted (Greenleaf, Wisconsin: Conners Publications, 1996) at $65.95 — further information from <almeiaol.com>.
