Sonata-Fantasie, Opus 4

Life

Russian composer of German birth. He is best remembered by historians for his keyboard contest for Joseph II of Austria against Wolfgang Amadé Mozart (1756-1791) and Antonio Salieri, which Hässler lost. The fact of this competition indicates that he was held in high esteem and considered a worthy competitor in German musical circles.
