Music

Biography

Played the violin from he was about 7 years old. Studied music in Stockholm. Concert master in the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra "Harmonien" in 1884. Met Edvard Grieg, and became a close friend of his. They co-operated closely on Grieg’s opus 72 "Norwegian Peasant Dances". Further studies in Leipzig with Adolf Brodsky. Concert Master in the Aberdeen Musical Society. Professor at the Music Concervatory in Helsinki. Further studies in St. Petersburg, Berlin and Liège. 1893-1899 Concert Master in "Harmonien" in Bergen, where he first started to compose. 1899-1929 Conductor of the theatre orchestra in Oslo.
