Life
Pedro Faria Gomes studied at the Academia de Música de Santa Cecília with Leonor Fernandes (Piano) and João Madureira (Composition). Later on, he got his degree in Composition at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, where he studied with Eurico Carrapatoso, Christopher Bochmann, Carlos Caires, Roberto Perez, Sérgio Azevedo, Carlos Fernandes and António Sousa Dias. In addition, he attended a Composition course in Nice under the supervision of Christian Manen and Conducting lessons at the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra with Jean-Marc Burfin.
His work À Memória de Anarda has won the Lopes-Graça Prize in Composition (Tomar). He lectures Musical Analysis at the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa Conservatoire and Composition at the AMSC and at the Piaget Institute of Almada. He has received commissions and his works have been performed, in Portugal and abroad, by such institutions as the Sinfonietta de Lisboa, Teatro Nacional São João, AMSC, Camerata Senza Misura, Orquestra Clássica da Madeira, Coro de Câmara de Setúbal, I Solisti Veneti, Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, Coro Ricercare, Academia de Música de Viana do Castelo / FAM Ensemble, Antena 2 da RTP / Prémio Jovens Músicos. Pedro Faria Gomes has recently been awarded a scholarship from the Royal College of Music (London) to enter the Masters Programme in Composition, starting in September 2007.
