Five Folksongs for Soprano and Band.

Life

D.M.A. Stanford University. Lecturer in Music (Composition, Conducting, Theory).

Professor Gilmore received his B.A. and M.A. in composition from UCLA, and his D.M.A. in conducting from Stanford University. Before coming to UCI in 1982 he taught at Cornell University and Oregon State University. A french horn player, Professor Gilmore performed in Bruckner’s Symphony No. 7 with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Edwuard van Beinum conducting, and under Georg Solti in a performance of Stravinsky’s "Sacre du Printemps." In addition, Professor Gilmore played with the Boston Pops Tour Orchestra on a ten-week tour of the U.S. His principal interest is composition. He was recently commissioned by the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee to compose a work for their symphonic band’s tour of the British Isles.

Jim Scully <jscullycsub.edu> writes: Dr. Gilmore teaches at UC Irvine (in southern California) now. I was fortunate enough to have him as a composition instructor in graduate school. He is still writing music and teaching full-time.
