Symphonies (2), symphonic poems, orchestra suites, incidental music for plays, operas and operettas.

Life

Attended the Royal Academy of Music and began his musical career as a composer of serious orchestral pieces, including two symphonies and other works. He became the musical director of the Globe Theatre, and began to write lighter incidental music for plays and other theatre pieces. With the death of Arthur Sullivan, German inherited the mantle of chief British composer of the musical theatre. He was knighted in 1928 and died in London in 1936.
