Music

Genis is one of those "brand-new" composers who do create the 21st century’s music. Remembering the traditional tonal and modal classical polyphonic style with today’s rhythms and harmonies sometimes. Genis is indicated as the "Turkish Mozart" by several music critics, publications and the musicians. Genis is always tonal, non-bizzare with a great feeling of rhythm.

Biography

Evren Genis was born in Ankara in 12 December 1978. He found himself directly into the fine-arts from his early childhood because of his father’s professsion as being an artist. His paintings, which should be accepted as highly-successful for his age, brought him a Bronze Medal in 1985’s International Children’s Art Exhibiton in Osaka, Japan. He gave up his joy of painting for now.

His relationship with music, has started in the elementary school years and read lots of serious books about music starting from those early days. At the 4th and 5th grades he wrote music writings for the school magazine. Starting from the 6th grade, his writings started to publish in various magazines and newspapers. He also wrote for his own zines; Metamorphasis and Yayin Organi. He spent his high-school years as to prepare for much more "serious" works, but he wrote two books in those years; Music Encyclopedia and From Baroque to Heavy-Metal. But he did not have any attempt to publish them yet. Now he is working on his 3rd book, titled Music Styles and Giants.

His musicianship started at the 7th grade by playing bass-guitar. He spent most of his time with his insturment and he formed his first band, not longer than a year. After working with various rock, hard-rock, blues, rock’n’roll and jazz-rock bands for 2-3 years, lately Bilkent Big-Band Jazz Ensemble, he quitted his career as a musician and now only plays for his own joy.

As a composer, he really is a strange figure for many. Long and hard education might be essential for those many for being a composer but Genis, did not have any academic-training on music and he learned to compose on his own. His only trust was his ears and the knowledge of music, and surely his highly-accepted creativity. He started to write music on his own, and he still writes music on his own. As a composer, he received very-good opinions in Europe, but some how not in his country by the academic institutions, only because of his young age and his uneducated ability. The Europe’s leading fine-arts magazine Arts & Culture indicated the composer as "The greatest composer until Mozart", and the title of his interview was the "Music Genius of the Up-Coming Millenium". Some of his sonatas and chamber musics had been performed by numerous chamber orchestras and pianists in Germany, Austria, Belgium and the Great Britain. None of his works have been performed in Turkey yet.

Genis still lives in Vienna and besides his life as a composer there, he also studies on Political Science at the University of Vienna.
