Life
Garant was mainly self-educated, but recieved some instructions from various teachers like Claude Champagne and Sylvio Lacharité. Garant played various instruments like clarinet, saxophone and piano. In 1951 Garant went to Paris to study under Olivier Messian, and later Arthur Honegger. There he was exposed to the music of Pierre Boulez, who turned his composition style around, and became a great inspiration for the rest of his life. He was inspired by Webern and Schoenberg’s music too. Garant was also an excellent condutor. He died in 1986 in Canada.
