I was expecting a better quality of the music and the pictures together. Otherwise I still like the music.

I just got this today, and it's a real treat. I'd like to second Mr. Birman's review. The English College Concert Choir and the Gabrieli Consort do a superb job in artistic interpretation of Christmas music from the Renaissance and Baroque eras. It's quite fitting that the concert take place in Santa Maria Maggiore, as many eminent composers, including Palestrina, worked there, and because it supposedly possesses Jesus' original crib. Music



Gabrieli is the earliest know composer to use dynamic markings in his compositions.

Life

The year of his death is unknown -- his death certificate says 1612, his tombstone says 1613. His birth date is unrecorded, but his death certificate says he was 58, while his tombstone claims he died at the tender age of 56.
