Life

Michael Fuchsmann was born on 21 January 1964. His first composer’s steps were done at special musical classes attached to Rostov State Conservatory, named after S.V. Rachmaninov, under Prof. Vitaly Khodosh. Later he graduated from this conservatory as a composer (1986) under Prof. Khodosh. He continued his postgraduate education as a composer (with Prof. Khodosh) and as a musicologyst (with Prof. Tatiana Frantova). He has written and defended the dissertation "Thematical relationship in musical form" (2003). Today he works as a teacher in Rostov State Conservatory.

Mr. Fuchsmann is the author of compositions for symphonic orchestra, numerous chamber pieces, works for various solo instruments, voice, choir (with and without accompaniment), jazz scores and music for dramatic performances. M. Fuchsmann has also written numerous arrangements and instrumentations, including classical and contemporary European music, pieces by Russian authors (e.g., unfinished Rachmaninov opera "Monna Vanna"). His compositions and arrangements are performed by various soloists, ensembles and orchestras in Russia and abroad.

As a musicologist M. Fuchsmann has published several works, exploring the thematical processes in contexts of composition and pedagogical practice. The thoughts/feelings of music find themselves also in his poems and vers libres (free verses).

Mr. Fuchsmann has been awarded several musical prizes of Rostov Culture Ministry.
