100 opus numbers; some 80 arrangements and works without opus numbers, nearly all for solo piano. Much of his work is very melodious and attractive, if influenced by composers of his time such as Richard Strauss and Scriabin. Very little is on CDs at the moment. One is: Peter Froundjian; Etcetera KTC 1117 (cd); 1991/2. There is a CD of Friedman’s Bach arrangements: Lars Boye Jensen; Classico 190 CD; 1997. The Paganini Variations op 47b are also on a CD by the Finnish pianist Matti Raekallio: Ondine ODE 777- 2(cd); 1991.

Life
Friedman was one of the great pianists of his era, along with Rachmaninoff, Josef Hofmann, Godowsky, Moisewitsch, and others. He was said to have the best technical equipment of all of Leschetizky’s students.
