Music

Dimitri Fampas composed mainly for the guitar and enriched the repertoire of the instrument with very original works, concert studies, suites, preludes, melodies for children and young guitarists. He became more widely known as a composer for his very unique and wonderful Greek dances for guitar. He composed for guitar solo, duo, trio and guitar orchestra and some songs with guitar. He also add to the guitar repertory lots of transcriptions of Greek music by Theodorakis and Hatzidakis.

His music very lyric and passionate is dominated by Greek traditional elements, rhythms and colours. His music has been published by: Ricordi of Brazil and Italy, Max Eschig – Durand of France, Columbia of USA, Lathkill of UK, Ph. Nakas, Papagrigoriou-Nakas and M. Nikolaidis-Orpheus of Greece and (soon available) Mel Bay of USA.

Life

Dimitri Fampas, (1922-1996), the most important Greek guitarist through the years, was born in the small village of Lafkos, in Pilion mountain. He studied with Emilio Pujol and Andres Segovia in Spain and Italy, gave hundreds of concerts all around the world, including UK, USA, Canada, France, Czechoslovakia, USSR, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Turkey, Vatican, Spain, Nederland, and of course every where in Greece including the ancient theatre of Epidavros. He created hundreds of exceptional guitarists and professors, now very famous in the guitar circles, establishing the world famous Greek guitar school.
