Quintet (aka "Symphony") in B-flat minor for Brass, Op. 5 (1911)
(contribution by Molineux, Allen <molineuxa
chipola.cc.fl.us>)
Along with the "symphony" for brass in Bb minor which is scored for 6 brasses (at least the arrangement I have is), that same work is also in a Quintet form for the standard brass quintet. Ewald has also written 3 other quintets numbered 2,3, and 4. All are very good examples of russian romantic writing. The second and fourth are rarely played, but the third gets some performance time more so than in the past. THe first quintet is by far the most popular and it is a staple in the brass quintet literature.
