Eötvös is well known for his electronic and electroacoustic music.
Some compositions:
- Three Madrigals — 12 voices (1972)
- Moro lasso (1973)
- Endless eight — 12 songs for solo voice
- Radames — chamber opera
- Chinese opera
- Psychocosmos (1993)
- Shadows (instrumental 1996)
He also wrote pieces for chamber ensemblemusic: piano, flute, clarinet, tuba, harmonium, oboe, etc.
Biography
Born in 1944, Péter Eötvös studied composition at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music with Janos Viski and Ferenc Szabo between 1958–63. His instrument is the piano. He obtained a diploma in composition in 1965.
He worked in 1967 with Karlheinz Stockhausen, and had many concerts between 1971–79 in Germany at the Westdeutcher Rundfunk studio of elektronic music (Köln).
In 1978 he was invited by Pierre Boulez and he was the conductor of IRCAM music contest. He obtained a decoration of the Culture Ministry in France, "Officier de l’Ordre de l’Art et des Lettres", in 1986.
Since 1992 he was prfessor of music at Highschool of music of Karsrhuhe (Germany).
