- Elgar carillon manuscript discovered
[posted 20 February 2012]In 1923 Edward Elgar composed a piece for the Carillon Tower in Queen’s Park, Loughborough, which was built as a memorial to the fallen in the first world war. The original manuscript of that composition has been found back on 14 February.
On that day, when staff of Charnwood Borough Council were reorganising a room, they found the hand-written score Carillon Chimes. There were also several letters from Elgar, as well as a film which may contain footage of the tower’s opening. The items had been donated to the Council in the 1950s. After that they were forgotten.

- Elgar £20 note no longer valid
[posted 1 July 2010]As of today (1 July 2010) the British will no longer be able to pay with the £20 bank note picturing Edward Elgar. It is being replaced by one with the image of economist Adam Smith.
The removal of this composer from the bank notes means that the arts are no longer represented on British paper money, much to the dislike of some.

- Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance" no. 6 completed
[posted 28 April 2006]Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance" marches are quite famous, especially his first one ("Land of Hope and Glory"). Composer Anthony Payne has now completed Elgar's sketches for a sixth march in the series. Elgar said these sketches, made in the 1930's, were "Jolly good". In spirit march no. 6 is quite different from the first. The premiere of the new march will take place at this year's London Proms festival. Anthony Payne has previously also completed Elgar's third symphony. [http://enjoyment.independent.co.uk/]
