Music

Eckhardt-Gramatté wrote symphonies, concertos, and string quartets, but her best-known (because most recorded) music are the six Piano Sonatas (recorded by Marc-André Hamelin) and the twelve Caprices for unaccompanied violin.

Life

Studied at the Paris Conservatoire and with Max Trapp in Berlin, and made a career as a violinist and pianist. She married the painter Walter Gramatte and settled eventually in Canada.
