Life

Manuel Durão studied trumpet and percussion and is currently studying Composition by Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa with Carlos Caires, João Madureira, Sérgio Azevedo, Roberto Pérez, Benoît Gibson and José Luís Ferreira. He attended Conducting Workshops by Jean-Sébastien Béreau. In 2005, he won the competition Jovens Criadores promoted by Clube Português de Artes e Ideias and represented Portugal in the III Bienal Jovens Criadores da CPLP (Community of Portuguese language Countries).

He made the ERASMUS program in Composition in the Hochschule für Musik Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy in Leipzig, Germany. He will start studying there in the winter semester 2008 with Reihard Pfundt (composition) and Helgeheide Schmidt (piano). He was selected for the first round of the Opera Competion in the Municipal Theatre in Lisbon.
