Music

Opera: Timón de Atenas “Timon of Athens” (based on Shakespeare’s play), which was commissioned by the Spanish Ministry of Culture and was premiered in 1992, among the events organized that year when Madrid was “cultural capital” of the European Union.

Biography

Durán-Loriga studied at the Madrid Conservatory as well as in the Musikhochschule of Cologne (Germany). Composition studies with Carmelo Barnaola and Luis de Pablo, and electroacustic music with Hans Ulrich Humpert. Attended summer courses with teachers such as Luigi Nono, Cristóbal Halffter and Tomás Marco.

Lecturer on musical matters. Concert critic for the Spanish National Radio, for which he has also produced music programs. He has been composer in residence of the ensemble Proyecto Gerhard and Proyecto Gerrero.

Received (1986–87) a grant from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation to compose a piece based on the computer transformation of words.
