Life

Brian Driscoll (American, born 1979) is a composer of secular and sacred choral works for ensembles of all sizes and levels of ability. As a vocalist, Mr. Driscoll has performed with the New Jersey Region I Chorus, Montclair State University Choir, Montclair State University Madrigal Singers, Montclair State University Jazz Ensemble, and Harmonium Choral Society.

Brian first began to study music when he was given a guitar at the age of 10. By the age of 14, he was writing his own songs for guitar and voice. He later began formal training in music theory, composition, and voice under Ms. Laura Anderson in 1994. In 1998, after several years of study, Mr. Driscoll earned the grand prize in Harmonium Choral Society’s first-annual choral composition contest for his work "Lord, There’s a Fire". It was a work that Paul Somers of Classical New Jersey would call "eminently publishable, and can hold its place in the repertory of any good choir."

In fall 1998 Brian began his collegiate studies in music theory, composition, and voice at Montclair State University. While at Montclair, Brian studied composition under Dr. Ting Ho and Mr. Patrick Burns. He also studied voice under Mr. Jeffrey Gall and Mr. Jim Wilson. On his 20th birthday, Brian had the distinct honor of hearing his string quartet, "Lamentations", performed in a master class conducted by pulitzer-prize winning composer George Walker. Mr. Driscoll gave a recital of his original compositions and arrangements in 2000.

Mr. Driscoll’s works have been published by Alfred Publishing Co., Inc., and have been performed throughout North America and Europe. Brian has affiliations with ASCAP, NACUSA, and Chorus America, and he is also a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America. He is currently pursuing teaching certifications in mathematics and music, and enjoys developing computer programs and websites while not studying. Mr. Driscoll lives in Bensalem, Pennsylvania with his wife, Susan, and two cats: Wendy and Tinkerbell.
