Music

His surviving works include four harpsichord suites and his “noels” for organ. He died June 15, 1772 in Paris. Daquin’s most famous work is “Le Coucou”.

Life

Louis-Claude Daquin was born in Paris on July 4, 1694. He was the son of Louis Daquin and d’Anne Tiersant. He was a child prodigy who at the age of six performed for Louis XIV. He studied with Louis Marchand. He held several positions as organist including Sainte-Chapelle (where he was appointed when he was only twelve years old). He also held positions at the Church of Saint Paul, the Cordeliers (1732), the Chapelle Royale (1739), and titular organist at Notre Dame (1755).
