Biography

Marc-Andre Dalbavie was born in 1961 in the Neuilly-on-Seine. Recipient of a formation to the higher national Academy of music of Paris, where it followed the classes of Michel Philippot for the composition, of Betsy Jolas and Claude Ballif for the analysis, of Guy Reibel for electroacoustic and Marius Constant for the orchestration, Marc-Andre Dalbavie also received the teaching of Tristan Murail for musical data processing and of Pierre Boulez for the direction of orchestra. From 1985 to 1990, it takes part in the activities of the department of musical research in Ircam, where it approaches the numerical synthesis and the composition computer-assisted. Its first work carried out in Ircam, Diadems, the fact of knowing in the whole world, because this part is regularly played at the time of the rounds of the Intercontemporain Unit. It resides in Berlin, of 1992 to 1993, with the invitation of Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) and, of 1995 to 1996, with the Médicis villa in Rome. He is a professor of orchestration to the Academy of Paris since 1996. Regarded as representative of the school of spectral music, it widens its artistic prospects with the Logos cycle which radiates towards various fields of expression (text, theatre, ballet...).
