Biography

Salvador Contreras is the only living member of the Mexican group The Four. He Studied violin and orchestra conducting with Silvestre Revueltas, and harmony, counterpoint and musical form with Candelario Huízar. He then studied composition with Carlos Chavez at the national conservatory of Mexico. He was Violinist at the Symphony Orchestra of Mexico. In 1935 he formed together with Ayala, Moncayo and Galindo the Grupo de los Cuatro. He was Professor at the New England Conservatory of Music.
